May the 4th Be With You

Star Wars Day was my last day of employment. In exchange for signing an electronic legal document waiving my right to sue for wrongful termination, I was given 3 months of salary in a lump sum. On my last day, I pedaled into work and returned a pair of laptops. I sat outside and drank my coffee by the bike rack and pedaled off with an empty moving box as it felt more tangible. No fuss. No fancy retirement party. Just the way I like it.

5 months have now past. My favorite retirement joke remains what day of the week is it? I don’t miss the work email, video meetings and status charts. Taking care of 5 kids full time is much harder work than my former day job but I sleep well.

I pressed pause on this blog experiment while the employment dust settled but I think there is some value in sharing the monthly numbers and financial optimizations awhile longer. So the sidebar numbers are updated and the site under construction button is turned off. Now to work on some new posts when the youngest is sleeping and others are in school.
